Refilling a water bottle with filtered water can save up to 18,000 plastic bottles per filter. With plastic pollution being a major concern in today's society, small steps like this can make a big difference. However, in the UK, there are limited resources to recycle these filters after use. Instead, the filters, which contain the plastic equivalent of 50 bottles, are put into landfill. This is a concerning issue, especially considering that when contacting manufacturers about the materials used, they are often reluctant to disclose this information. We believe that manufacturers of these filters have an obligation to process these plastics at the end of their life. As consumers, we rely on these companies to provide sustainable and eco-friendly solutions. The amount of plastic waste that accumulates in our landfills is staggering, and it is important for companies to take responsibility for the products that they are producing. To combat this issue, we at Aqua Concepts are working with a recycling facility based in the Midlands to process the housings and media of these filters. By doing so, we are taking a step towards reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills. We believe that it is our responsibility to make sure that these filters are processed properly and turned into something of value. We urge manufacturers to take the same steps that we are taking and to be more transparent about the materials used in their products. It is up to all of us to make conscious decisions about how we impact the environment. By choosing to refill our bottles with filtered water instead of buying disposable bottles, we are taking a step in the right direction. But it is important for everyone to do their part, including manufacturers, to make sure that this positive impact is not outweighed by negative consequences. Together, we can make a difference and work towards a more sustainable future.
